Style Crush: Carey Mulligan’s Minimal, Elegant, and Feminine Style

Dear Wonderful Reader,

The Perfect Dress!
The Most Perfect Dress!

I’m obsessed with Carey Mulligan style. This young starlet may let her style go when she’s running errands or getting a cup of coffee, but I think it’s only out of laziness and carelessness. But when she’s is dressing up for events, she dresses like a fashion goddess!! Mulligan’s style is minimal, elegant, and feminine. Did I mention I’m totally in love with her style?!

I divided her style into four different categories, since she likes to switch it up sometimes. I especially love how she just ditches jewelry!

*Even though diamonds are a girl’s best friend and I owe many jewelry pieces and I love them and I’m always tempted to buy more, when it comes to putting on outfits, I feel like the less jewelry the better: minimal to no jewelry make the woman look more effortless, clean (cut), sleek, and sexy because it focuses the attention on her skin and silhouette and it implies that she doesn’t need the aid of a bling to be noticed (was that the longest sentence ever?!). Personally and most importantly, minimal jewelry make me feel more comfortable and liberated. Though, I’m not swearing off buying jewelry or anything!

 My favorite category<3

A. Sleek, Modern, Minimal, & Sexy

 B. Fabulous & Whimsical

C. Elegant, Vintage, & Old-lady Like (I mean that in a positive way)

P.S. I owe lots of old-lady pieces and I love them! They’re just so elegant!

D. Quirky & Fun

I am absolutely mesmerized with French-Italian artist, Françoise de Felice ghostly paintings to the point that I sat down, thought hard and came up with a few theories to explain her work.

But first, I should let you enjoy this crazy ride!

555841_633538400000011_403548658_nHow cool is this dog!!! Notice the contrast between the openness of his body language and the warmth in his eyes versus the owner’s stiff body stance and aloof stare. Nonetheless, it looks like the dog loves its owner just as she is! She probably likes him too since she’s letting him cling to her, despite her pearls and expensive clothes.

Theory #1

I love that her paintings look like the surreal fragments of a beautiful dream blending in together. They remind of that moment when you first wake up after having a series of dreams. And how when you try to recall your dreams your brain kinda shows you different snippents of them and you feel like you remember them exactly, yet you can’t verbalize them into words cause their so distorted.

Theory #2

Felice’s work is very psychological as her paintings explore the human psyche and how the human isn’t just a “human”. Instead, we are our spirit, soul, body, mind and God knows what else! All those parts are fighting to be prominent and dominate or rather to be their own distinctive entites. Next to that internal battle, there is a also an external battle with fellow humans (and they could be the closest people to you such as your kids, siblings, or friends as some paintings suggest), animals and outside forces. The art work showcases that ultimately those battles can be won or rather tolerated and all those forces and entities can live harmoniously. Also, they suggest that messy relationships, frustration, and struggle add passion to life and make it more beautiful, and interesting.

Theory #3

Stream of consciousness!

P.S I’m interested to know what do you think those paintings represent!

Spring Trends: Metallic Gold Nails Easy Manicure Tutorial

IMG_4449
Dear Wonderful Reader,IMG_4457

How amazing does a fresh manicure feel?!

Metallics are making a comeback this Spring and it’s rather a glamorous one. I fell in love with Gold Medal from Sinful Colors ($2) the moment I saw it at the drug store. Gold is a perfect color to try out this trend with because it’s neutral enough to  blend in with your skin tone and it’s also metallic.  The color is fun, classy, and glamorous. It will give your gold jewelry a kick too!

What You NeedIMG_4439

(Right to Left…Sorry, I didn’t have the “mirror” effect)

  1. Nail Clipper
  2. Cuticle Pusher
  3. Cuticle Nipper
  4. Nail File
  5. Sinful Colors nail polish in Gold Medal
  6. Sally Hansen – Super Shine, Top Coat
  7. Nail Polish Remover
  8. Q tips – Precision Tips
  9. Vaseline Total Moisture Healthy Hand & Nail Conditioning Lotion
  10. Johnson’s Baby Oil Gel Shea and Cocoa Butter

IMG_4425

  1. Take off any old nail polish with nail polish remover. Then, soak your hands in a bowl of mild hot water for 10 minutes to soften and loosen your cuticles. Feel free to substitute the bowl technique with taking a bath.
  2. Clip your nails to the desired length with a nail clipper. I like mine short!
  3. Gently push back your cuticles with the cuticle pusher. Then nip off the excess dead skin. I tend to over do this step and then regret it later. So, keep in mind that less is more with this step.
  4. File your nails!
  5. Apply one coat of the nail polish color. One coat is enough for this color since it’s not sheer. *Many people advise to apply two coats but I find that this prevents my polish from looking smooth and even.
  6. Apply the top coat for a glossy finish. This is the best top coat, I have ever used. It’s very shiny and it dries very quickly.IMG_4432
  7. If you are like me, and you kinda paint the polish all over your nails and skin and you end up with hands that look like a hot mess, then this step is crucial for you. Add a little nail polish remover in the nail polish remover’s lid. Then, dip the Q – tip in the nail polish remover and press firmly on the skin around your nails. *For this step I used the Precision Tips Q tips (around $3), which are basically Q tips that are enhanced for special uses. Their tips are slimmer and firmer than normal Q tips. I also tried using the generic Q tips but they were useless since their tips were bigger and softer.
  8. Wait until your polish dries. Then, rub the conditioning lotion into your skin. And for a little extra sass, rub your skin with gel baby oil. This product smells delicious and I find the gel form more manageable and less messy.

Happy Pampering!!!

The Easiest and Most Beautiful DIY Project on the Planet

12

I had so much fun with this project. It was such a joy to walk on the beach and look for all those little treasures. Luckily for me, It had plenty of them. Those precious seashells made me realize that beauty is all around us, we just need to make ourselves aware of it.

I placed my vase (or actually wine glass lol) on my desk, where I can see it constantly, because it inspires me to be creative and think outside of the box. Also, because it’s so beautiful and I’m very proud of it!

Another perfect place for it would be… the bathroom since seashells have a calming, soothing effect to them and they remind us of the beach. It will be the perfect view when you’re taking a relaxing bath.

Enjoy and tell me which version is your favorite!

Steps

1
1. Collect them! Try to only collect whole (none-broken ones) or whatever your eyes find appealing.
2
2. Wash them with mild hot water and let them sit for 10 minutes.
3
3. lay them out on their backs and let them air dry for as long as they need. Use a blow dryer if you’d like to speed up the process.
4
4. Divide them by pattern, shape, size, color, or whatever looks good to you.
5
5. Get a wine glass (like I used), bowl, vase, or anything that’s transparent.

You can spray-paint them as well, but I figured nail polish is cheaper and more accessible. I find that nail polish colors that work best are the ones that are almost transparent and/or only provide a nice sheen.

P.S. For an extra sassy kick spray them throughly (before placing them in the bowl) with your favorite perfume/spray, preferably one that smells ocean-y or a tropical one.

The Beauty of Life: A Lighthouse

Dear Wonderful Reader,

tumblr_mqg3ouP2NV1s2g4nfo1_500

I’m infatuated with lighthouses; I find them  quaint, symbolic, and somehow very setimental.

tumblr_myr1p95QUI1t9vt3xo1_500

“There is no fog so dense, no night so dark, no gale so strong, no mariner so lost but what its beacon light can rescue. It beckons through the storms of life. It calls,

‘This way to safety; this way to home.’
― Thomas S. Monson

bodie-lighthouse-outer-banks-abstract-painting-dan-carmichael

Perhaps its their classic charm, that brings me comfort. Unlike cars or phones, a lighthouse has always looked like a lighthouse and this sense of familiarity is so nice to have in an age where everything and everyone gets a makeover.

tumblr_mma1uxB3IB1qggs6ao1_500

Gazing at a lighthouse fills my soul with a great sense of tranquility. They blend in so beautifully with nature, because they haven’t been altered and stained with modern day technology. Breathe deeply and take in the serene sky, the crystal water, and the peaceful lighthouse in this picture; relax and clear your mind!

lighthouse

Perhaps its the metaphoric significance of their function: they provide light to those who are lost or struggling in deep sea. The kind of light that promises home to the lost, and hope to those who are fighting vigorous waters.

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

(John 8:12)

They symbolize God and his promise to us: no matter how murky it gets, there is always a guiding light to a  safe shore.

tumblr_mvxff7BFTP1rp4thho1_500

Perhaps its their graceful strength and how they stand tall and still in the midst of ferocious waters and ruthless storms.

This amazing lighthouse located in Long Beach, CA is where I had my very first, real date (along with other spots). It was a great day and the date was very special. This bitter-sweet Lighthouse will always hold a special place in my heart.

Works that Feature Lighthouses

  • Most of Nicholas Sparks novels (Sorry, can’t remember which ones exactly)
  • Share with me, any artistic/literary (music or movies even) works that feature Lighthouses in THAT way.

P.S. Shine like a beacon today!

Happy, Happy, Happy!

Dear Wonderful Reader,

tumblr_n2r0bjx8GR1scz19vo1_500

Happy First Day of Spring!

Oh, today is also International Day of Happiness!

What a cool coincidence (though, not sure if IHD falls on the same day every year, but do correct me if I’m wrong).

And can we just pause and appreciate the metaphorical significance of this!

Do something that makes you happy today and tell me about it!
